Memory
Private AI with memory that stays on your device
nokeep remembers useful details about you, like your job, your projects and how you like answers, and carries them into later chats. The memory list is saved in your browser on your device, not in an account on our servers, and every line is visible, editable and deletable. It is on by default, free, needs no sign-up, and you can turn it off for one chat or everywhere.

Why memory is usually the least private part of an AI
Memory makes an assistant far more useful: you stop re-explaining who you are, what you are working on and how you want answers written. In most apps it also means a growing profile of you kept on the company’s side, tied to your account, and researchers who have read real memory lists have found health details, money worries and other people’s names in them.
nokeep moves that list to your side. The facts and topics it learns are stored in your browser. Your earlier chats are searched by an index that also runs in your browser. When you send a message, the browser picks the few lines that matter to this one question, and only those travel with it.
Use memory in three steps
Step 1: Just chat. Memory is on from your first message, with no account. As you talk, nokeep notes lasting details, such as your work, the tools you use or the tone you prefer.
Step 2: Check what it kept. Open Settings from the account row at the bottom of the sidebar, then Memory. Every saved line is listed. Edit or forget any of them, mark one as sensitive, or use Add a memory to write one yourself.
Step 3: Start a new chat and ask something that depends on it, like “suggest a weekend project that fits what I do”. The relevant lines ride along with the message, so the answer fits you without you repeating yourself.
What leaves your device, and what does not
The saved list never leaves your browser as a whole. To decide what to remember and what to recall, your message is read by nokeep’s server and the model answering you, and nothing from that is stored on our side. At most 8,000 characters of memory are sent with any one message, and a message that needs nothing personal is sent with no memory at all.
Lines about sensitive areas, such as health, money trouble, legal matters, religion, politics or family conflict, stay home unless the message is about that area. Marking a line as sensitive tells it to treat that line this way.
Memory costs nothing on any plan, including the free one. It is not part of your account key, which holds only a plan and a credit balance.
How to limit or switch it off
Everywhere: in Settings, Memory, turn off Remember across chats. The list is kept but nothing reads or adds to it until you turn it back on.
For one chat: open More in the chat header and turn off Memory for this chat. For a conversation you want to leave no trace, use a Temporary chat, which reads no memory and is gone after a reload.
For a piece of work: a project set to Its own memory keeps a separate memory that never mixes with yours in either direction. Character chats never go into your memory at all.
To start over: Clear memory, then Forget everything deletes every line, and earlier chats stop being searched and learned from.
Limits
Memory holds up to 80 short facts of 240 characters each and 40 topics, the same for everyone. It is a set of notes, not a transcript, so it will not recall every word you said, and it can miss a detail or keep one you did not mean it to. Review the list now and then.
Because memory lives in this browser, it does not follow you to another device or another browser on its own, and clearing site data erases it. Move it with Export and Import in the Memory settings, which save a nokeep-memory.json file, or with a full backup, which includes memory along with your chats and projects.

Asked before you asked
Is the memory stored on nokeep’s servers?
No. The saved list is kept in your browser. Your message and the relevant lines are sent to be processed when you chat, and nothing from that is stored on our side.
Do I need an account for memory?
No. Memory works on the free tier with no sign-up, and it costs no credits on any plan.
Can I see and delete what it remembers?
Yes. Settings, Memory lists every line. Edit or forget any of them, or clear everything at once.
Will memory work on my phone too?
Only if you move it. Memory lives in the browser where it was made. Export it, or make a backup, and import it on the other device.
How much can it remember?
Up to 80 short facts and 40 topics. It can also search your earlier chats on this device.
