A ChatGPT alternative for the privacy part
ChatGPT ties every conversation to an account and stores it by default, which is the specific thing most people are trying to escape when they look for an alternative. nokeep asks for no account at all, keeps nothing after the answer is sent, and adds no moderation layer of its own.
ChatGPT is a better general assistant than nokeep, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. It has the larger ecosystem, the deeper tooling, and for most everyday work it is the sensible default. This page is about the cases where its defaults are the problem.
What you are actually escaping
The account. Every message is attached to an identity you verified with an email or phone number, and that link is what turns a conversation into a durable record about a person.
The storage. History is on by default. Turning it off changes what you can see, not what exists — and a preservation order in ongoing litigation has already required conversations to be retained even after users deleted them.
The refusals. A moderation layer sits between you and the model, and it is the reason a medical question that gets specific, a legal question about your own situation, or fiction that goes somewhere dark all hit the same wall.
What you give up
Memory across sessions, because there is no account to hang it on. If you want an assistant that remembers your projects for months, this is the wrong trade and you should stay where you are.
The surrounding ecosystem — the app store, the integrations, the enterprise features. nokeep is a chat, images and video, and that is the whole surface.

Can I use ChatGPT without an account?
There is a limited logged-out mode, but it is rate-limited, feature-reduced, and still subject to the same storage and moderation behaviour on the server side. It is not an anonymity feature.
Does turning off chat history make ChatGPT private?
It stops conversations appearing in your sidebar and stops them being used for training going forward. It does not make the account anonymous, and it does not apply retroactively.
Is nokeep as capable as ChatGPT?
For general assistant work, no. For answering frankly without a moderation layer, and for doing it without an account or a stored record, that is the whole point of it.
