How do I attach a photo or file?

1. In Chat mode, open +the plus button›then Add photos & files next to the message box, or drag files onto the chat.
2. Type your question and send.

Attach up to 4 files of up to 25 MB each: images, PDFs, EPUBs, Office files, CSV, text and code. Long pasted text (1,800 characters or more) becomes an attached file for you.

After a reload, attached images and most files keep only their names, so attach them again.

How do I talk instead of type, or listen to a reply?

1. In Chat mode, press the microphone to dictate. It stops after 90 seconds.
2. To hear a reply, press Read aloud (the speaker button) under it.

The recording and the audio are not kept. Free use includes 100 voice uses a day, shared between dictation and read aloud. With a plan or credits, voice uses a few credits: see what things cost.

In a character chat, read aloud uses the character’s own voice. To talk hands-free, call a character: see Characters.

How do I get a more careful answer?

1. Tap the lit Chat part of the mode pill to open its settings.
2. Turn on Think it through.

It is slower. Use it for hard questions.

How do I set instructions for every message?

1. Open account row›then Settings›then Instructions. The account row is at the bottom of the sidebar.
2. Write your tone, format or context. It is sent with every message.

How do I find, rename, export or delete a chat?

1. Search: press Search everything (the magnifier) in the sidebar. It searches chats, images, documents and projects on this device.
2. Rename: double-click a chat’s title in the sidebar, or open its menu and choose Rename.
3. Export: in the chat header, open More›then Export this chat. You get a Markdown (.md) file without images or clips.
4. Delete: open the chat’s menu in the sidebar and choose Delete.

Delete does not ask twice and cannot be undone. Make a backup first if you might want the chat back.

How do I use projects?

A project keeps related chats, files and instructions together.

1. Press New project (the + next to Projects in the sidebar).
2. Give it a name and, if you like, a description.
3. Choose Its own memory to keep the project’s memory separate, or Your memory to share your usual memory.
4. Press Create project, then New chat here to start a chat inside it.

Inside a project you can set Instructions and add Files (up to 25 MB each) that its chats can use. PDFs and Office files are sent once to pull out their text.

Deleting a project asks whether to keep its chats (Delete, keep the chats) or delete them with it.
