Web search and deep research
Web search gives current answers with sources. Deep research reads many pages for you and writes a cited brief. Search needs a plan; research takes a plan or credits.

What do I need?
| Free | Credits only | Plan | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web search | No | No | Yes, included |
| Deep research | No | Yes, about 100 credits a run | Yes, included |
With no plan and no credits, both options show a lock, and tapping one opens the plans.
With credits but no plan, the menu shows Web search as available, but a search stops with “Web search comes with a plan.” Deep research works. See Plans and credits.
How do I search the web?
- In Chat mode, open then Web search next to the message box. A Search chip appears.
- Ask your question and send.
The reply says how many sources it read and lists them. Only your search words are sent, and the sites never see you.
Search stays on for this chat only. It turns off when you start or switch chats; press the × on the chip to turn it off sooner.
How do I run deep research?
- In Chat mode, open then Deep research.
- Ask your question and send. You see each step: the searches it planned, the pages it read, and the citations it checked.
It is slower than a normal reply. The result is a brief with citations checked against their sources.
Common questions
Why does web search fail with credits?
Search is the one paid feature credits do not buy. It needs a plan, even though the menu may show it as available. Deep research does work with credits.
