For a quick decision: choose around the experience you need. Community discovery, creating your own characters, and browser-local saved history are separate features. A service can be strong at one without replacing the others.
What does “no filter” mean for roleplay?
People searching for a Character AI alternative with no filter often want a scene to continue through conflict, difficult emotions, or mature fictional themes. nokeep supports open-ended fiction for adults and adds no refusal layer of its own over a model’s chat reply. Character portraits and scene images are different: they have their own checks.
That is a description of how the product works, not a promise that every model will answer every request. Training, provider rules, available context, and usage terms still matter. Test a short scene before committing a whole story, and use the available model options to assess writing style and instruction-following.
Create a character and start a conversation
- Open Characters. In the app’s Rooms navigation, choose Characters, then New character.
- Give them a personality. Enter a Name and Persona. Describe how they speak, what they want, and which decisions belong to you. Add a Greeting for their first line.
- Save and chat. Choose a face or optionally draw a portrait from How they look. Drawing uses an image generation. Save the profile, then open its card to start a fresh conversation with its greeting.

A useful persona gives the model a voice, an immediate goal, and a clear division of roles. Use this original brief in the Persona field, or try it as a chat draft first. Change the name, setting, or tone to fit your story.
Example brief · The flooded archive
Play Ilya, an adult cartographer searching for a missing island. Voice: observant, dry humor, short dialogue rather than long speeches. Scene: we meet in a flooded archive as the last ferry is about to leave. Goal: persuade my character to help recover a map without revealing your whole plan. Turn-taking: play Ilya and describe the surroundings. Leave my character’s words, feelings, and decisions to me. Start: give me one intriguing clue and a choice. Keep each reply under 150 words.

For the saved character, set the Greeting to: “Ilya slides a soaked chart across the desk. ‘The island was here yesterday. Tell me you still remember its name.’” A greeting sets the scene before your first message.
- Give one concrete action. Try: “I put a water-damaged map on the desk. Which island is missing?” A specific move gives the character something to respond to.
- Check who controls your character. If the reply invents your decisions, restate the boundary and ask for a revision.
- Test a remembered detail. After a few turns, return to the ferry or the missing map. Look for consistency rather than accepting a confident contradiction.

Keep a long story coherent
nokeep can use the current conversation and optional browser-local memory to carry relevant details into later chats. Memory can be turned off or cleared. It does not guarantee that every detail will be recalled, or that a character will always stay consistent.
Keep a short story note: who each character is, what just happened, what they know, and what is unresolved. Update it when the plot changes. When starting a new scene, include the facts that matter there and tell the model whether it should narrate, play one character, or help you revise.
The portrait on a saved character’s card helps you recognize them. You can also create a separate image for a scene, but generated images do not guarantee the same appearance each time.
Before you move a story from Character.AI
- Keep the original. There is no automatic account, character-card, or chat-history migration into nokeep. Save a copy of work you want to preserve.
- Bring the essentials. Use a brief you own or have permission to use to create the new character’s Persona and Greeting. Put the current scene summary in its chat rather than expecting the model to know the old conversation.
- Check the allowance. The free tier includes 25 chat messages a day. Credits and plans cover more use; there is no unlimited free tier.
- Understand where the copy lives. Profiles and saved chats stay in the current browser. Clearing site data can remove them, and another device does not automatically have them. Keep a separate copy of important character definitions and export conversations you need.

Is nokeep a Character AI alternative with no filter?
Chat has no refusal layer of ours over model responses. That does not mean every request will be answered: model training, provider rules, technical limits, and nokeep’s terms still apply. Character portraits and other images have their own checks, and illegal content is always blocked. It is an option for adults who want open-ended fiction and roleplay.
Can I use it without signing up?
Yes. Open nokeep, choose Characters, and pick one or press Make your own. The daily free chat allowance requires no account, email, payment card, or model-provider API key.
Is there a free Character AI alternative with unlimited messages?

Can I import my Character.AI characters and chats?
There is no automatic Character.AI account, character-card, or chat-history import. You can use a brief you own or have permission to use to describe a new character, then edit who they are on their page and bring a scene summary into a story. Keep a backup of the original.
Will the character remember our story?
Each story keeps its own conversation, and a call remembers your latest story with that character. Character chats are kept out of your personal memory. The model can still miss or contradict details, so keep a short story summary and correct mistakes as you go.
Are my roleplay chats private?
Saved chat history stays in your browser rather than a nokeep cloud history archive. Hosted inference still processes the prompt and relevant context.
