Keys and daily caps
A key belongs to your nokeep account and spends the credits you bought. Give each app its own key and its own daily cap, so one leaked key can only spend so much.
Checked 26 October 2026
Make a key
- Open the console. With no account in this browser, buy credits first, from $5; buying them makes the account.
- Press New key. Name it after the app it is for.
- Set a daily cap in dollars, from $0.10 to $1,000.00. It starts at $2.00.
- Confirm you are 18 or older, and press Create key.
- Copy the key. It is shown once.
We keep a fingerprint of the key (its SHA-256), never the key itself, so a lost key can’t be shown again. Revoke it and make another.
Send it
Send the key as a bearer token on every request: Authorization: Bearer sk-nokeep-…. OpenAI SDKs do this for you when you pass api_key.
Keep keys on a server or in an app’s key field. A key in a public web page can be copied by anyone who opens it.
Daily caps
Each key has its own cap on what it spends in a day, in dollars. Caps reset at 00:00 UTC.
Before a call runs, it holds the most it could cost. A call that could pass the cap stops with 429 daily_cap and costs nothing; its Retry-After header says how many seconds until the reset. A call with no max_tokens gets the reply length the cap and your balance still pay for, so a nearly spent cap still answers short calls.
Change a cap at any time in the console. The new cap applies to the next call.
Revoke a key
Press Revoke on the key in the console, then Revoke key. Apps using it get 401 invalid_key from the next call on. Its calls stay in the log for 30 days.

Questions
How many keys can I have?
Up to 10 live keys per account. Revoke one to make another.
Do keys expire?
No. A key works until you revoke it, while the account has bought credits.
Can a key spend a plan’s credits?
No. The API spends credits you bought; a plan’s credits stay in the app.
