How do I use AI without being tracked?
Close the four layers in order of how much they see: the account first, then what the service stores, then the network path, then the browser — because an account defeats every measure below it and most people start at the bottom.
The four layers
The account. It knows exactly who you are and links every session together. Removing it does more than everything else combined, which is why it is first.
The service. Even without an account, a service that stores conversations holds a body of text that can be breached, sold or subpoenaed. Ask what is retained rather than who is promised not to look.
The network. Your ISP sees which sites you connect to; the service sees your IP. A VPN or Tor changes what each of them learns about the other, and changes nothing about an account.
The browser. Fingerprinting can re-identify a visitor across sessions with no account at all — which is why not collecting those signals has to be a deliberate choice by the service, not something you can fix from your side.
What this looks like in practice
A no-account service that retains nothing closes the top two layers, which are the ones that produce durable records about you. Add a VPN if the network layer matters for your situation.

Does private browsing stop AI tracking?
It clears local traces on your device. The service still sees the same request, and an account still identifies you.
Is Tor overkill?
It depends entirely on who you are worried about. For a company profiling you, no-account plus no-retention is the relevant fix. For a network observer, Tor is the tool.
Can I be tracked without cookies or an account?
Potentially, through browser and device fingerprinting. It requires the service to collect those signals, so the protection is choosing one that does not.
