How do I delete my ChatGPT history?
To delete a ChatGPT conversation, open its three-dot menu in the history sidebar, choose Delete, and confirm. To remove every conversation, use Settings → Data controls → Delete all chats. Export anything you need before confirming.

Delete, archive, or turn off training?
Delete removes a chat from your account. Archive hides it from the main list while keeping it available under Settings → Data controls → Archived Chats. Turning off training changes a data-use preference; it is not deletion.
Check files and other copies
Library files can survive deletion of the conversation where you uploaded them. Review Library separately. Downloads, screenshots, copied text, and any exports on your device also remain outside this action.
Before changing records relevant to a legal dispute or workplace retention requirement, get appropriate guidance. A privacy cleanup is not an exception to a preservation obligation.
What happens after you confirm
OpenAI says deleted chats are removed from view immediately and normally scheduled for permanent deletion within 30 days, subject to stated exceptions. It does not offer recovery of deleted chats through the interface, API, or support. The source below covers the current behavior.
For future conversations, decide whether you need cloud history at all. nokeep keeps the saved conversation in your browser. You can delete local chats there, but clearing that copy does not undo previous processing or erase a screenshot you exported.

Can I undo Delete all chats?
OpenAI does not offer recovery of deleted chats. Check your own existing exports before deleting anything you may need.
Is archiving enough to erase history?
