Choose the right kind of processing
If the requirement is that prompts never leave the device, use a local model and verify that the application, tools, and telemetry also work offline. This requires suitable hardware and gives you responsibility for updates and local security.
For hosted AI, look for a clear explanation of content retention, providers, account requirements, and operational records. A no-account option reduces one identity link; it does not remove the information needed to route a network request.
Reduce identifying details in the conversation
Use placeholders for people and organizations, omit unnecessary addresses and identifiers, and provide only the parts of files needed for the task. Rare combinations of facts can still identify a person even after names are removed.
A VPN changes who handles parts of your network connection; it does not anonymize a prompt containing your name or make a payment anonymous. Avoid treating a collection of privacy tools as a guarantee.
Manage the copy on your device
