Recovery
Can you recover deleted ChatGPT chats?
A deleted ChatGPT chat cannot be restored through ChatGPT, its API, or support. A chat that is merely missing may still be archived or belong to another account or workspace. Check those possibilities before assuming it was deleted.

First establish whether it was deleted
Confirm the account and workspace you are signed into, including the sign-in method you originally used. Then check Settings → Data controls → Archived Chats. Refresh or sign out and back in if the sidebar appears incomplete. Check OpenAI’s status page for a history incident.
If history is still missing, a data export can help you inspect what is still associated with the account. An export is not a restoration tool for an already deleted chat.
Look for a copy you already own
Search existing exports, downloaded documents, notes, or screenshots. Those may preserve some content even when the original chat is gone. Treat a reconstructed conversation as a copy rather than proof of the complete original exchange.
Do not give your login, session cookie, or payment information to a service promising to retrieve deleted chats. OpenAI’s documented lack of recovery applies even during the normal deletion window.
Prevent accidental loss next time
Archive a conversation you only want out of the sidebar. Export important work to a place you control and protect that backup appropriately.
nokeep uses a different tradeoff: chats are saved in the current browser, with no server-side history to recover. Use the app’s export tools before clearing site data or replacing the device. A claim key restores paid access, not the missing local conversation.

Asked before you asked
Does the 30-day deletion period mean support can restore a chat?
No. OpenAI explicitly says deleted chats cannot be recovered through the UI, API, or support.
Can nokeep import or recover a deleted ChatGPT chat?
It cannot recover deleted content from ChatGPT. Work only from a copy you already possess.
