Storage
Does ChatGPT store my conversations?
Yes. Chats in a ChatGPT account are normally saved until you delete them. Turning off model training does not delete that history. Temporary Chat and guest access have different rules, so check which mode you are actually using.

History, training, and retention are different
History is the conversation list you can reopen. Training is a possible use of data to improve models. Retention describes how long a provider keeps a record. One setting does not necessarily control all three.
What deletion changes
OpenAI says deleted chats disappear from your account immediately and are scheduled for permanent deletion within 30 days, with exceptions for de-identified data and security or legal obligations. Archiving keeps a conversation in the account. Temporary chats are automatically deleted within 30 days.
Uploaded files can have their own lifecycle. Files saved in ChatGPT Library are managed separately from chats; deleting the conversation does not necessarily delete its Library files. Check the current file-retention documentation before assuming an attachment is gone.
How to choose a workflow
For occasional questions, inspect temporary or guest modes and the current data controls. For work material, follow your organization’s approved service and contract. Consumer and enterprise products can have different terms.
If you want saved history under your own browser’s control, nokeep stores chats locally and does not keep a server-side chat archive. That removes cloud-history recovery: clearing browser data can lose the conversation. nokeep still sends prompts to hosted inference providers to generate replies. This is a storage choice, not offline AI.
